>   WHAT IS AN ONLINE VISION TEST?  

An Online Vision Test is a test that is administered on a computer equipped with Internet access.  An Online Vision Test is sometimes called a "Web-based Eye Test".   

>   WHEN WERE THE FIRST VISION TESTS DEVELOPED?

One of the first vision tests was the Snellen Eye Cart that was developed in the 1860s.  Up until now, these tests were available on paper and always required administration and scoring by a trained person.  Other tests emerged, such as the vision testers of the last century.  However, these required special equipment and were subject to mechanical failure and memorization.  Online Vision Tests by SpecialtyAutomated are automatically administered and scored online.  SpecialtyAutomated Online Vision Tests are the first, truly online vision tests.

>   HOW ARE ONLINE VISION TESTS NOW USED?

Online Vision Tests are now used to provide strong measures of visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, color blindness, and / or visual field, among others, of individuals.  For this reason, vision tests are also used for fitness to drive determinations, as recommended by the American Medical Association and NHTSA.

>   WHAT KIND OF COMPUTER MONITOR IS RECOMMENDED FOR THE ONLINE VISION TEST ™ ?

As part of our efforts to promote green and eco-friendly products, we do not encourage the purchase of new equipment.  Therefore, at a minimum, a 15 inch (38.1 cm) LCD monitor that is free from glare and dust is usable.  Ideally, at a minimum, a 15 inch (38.1 cm) touch screen monitor that is sensitive to touch, and free from glare and dust, is advised, especially for optimal assistive technology applications.  Computer monitor settings may vary from test to test.  Therefore, we will provide the settings information upon request and registration.

ARE ONLINE VISION TESTS ™ REALLY GREEN PRODUCTS?

Options for immediate feedback, printable scores and results, or scores or results emailed to the network specialist are available.  For system administrator content management, at a minimum, we recommend Windows 2000, Windows 2003, and/ or Windows XP (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x, Firefox 1.5).  For Windows Vista, please consider Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.x, Firefox 1.5, at a minimum.  A printer is needed for the optional print out.  Online Vision Tests ™ also allow for collection and analysis of data.   Speakers or a headset are needed for the optional audio format.
